Say hello to Sidney - our newly minted senior account manager who has risen through the ranks since joining Home Made as our first ever sales associate.
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I studied biomedical science at the University of Sheffield and prior to joining Home Made I worked as a medical sales representative selling surgical equipment to orthopaedic surgeons. Joining Home Made involved a bit of a leap of faith into something totally unknown, but I'm still here three years later!
Outside of work, my passions are football (I’m a lifelong Gooner), reading, and discovering new music. I love hip hop, afrobeat, and house but I’ll listen to anything easy on the ears. I also still indulge my scientific curiosity, but now I’m my own primary test subject! I’m always running experiments on myself, whether it’s a self-improvement plan or a new hairstyle (I’ve had seven in the last five years).
Why Home Made?
I bought into three things:
I believed in the business model - it was clear to me that Home Made was going to become a big industry disruptor. That was (and still is) very exciting.
I was impressed by the management team - I wanted to learn from talented and experienced individuals.
The opportunity for personal development - the sky is your limit when working in a startup. I wanted to understand what it takes to transform a business from a scrappy startup into a market leader.
What makes us unique?
The combination of great people and stellar product is exactly what the market needs - Home Made has got the balance right.
Favourite area of London and why?
Soho: There’s diverse range of bars and restaurants and I can feel London’s hustle and bustle. That energy resonates with me.
Fun fact:
When I was 15, I was the MD of a ‘young enterprise.’ My teachers entered us into a competition that pitted our business against teams from other local schools. We set up a stall in Eden shopping centre selling t-shirts we had designed ourselves and made £600 in one day. We won the Ernest Shackleton award for our efforts and beat several teams of much older students. It was the beginning of my sales empire!
